KUALA LUMPUR: Petronas Gas Bhd’s net profit for the first quarter ended March 31, 2015 rose 7.6% to RM449.93mil, from RM418mil a year ago cushioned by higher revenue from gas processing, gas transportation and utilities segment.
It said on Tuesday, revenue for the quarter increased 4.4% to RM1.10bil compared to RM1.05bil a year ago largely due to higher revenue from gas transportation and gas processing segment.
“This was in line with higher capacity booking by Petronas and higher reservation charge due to the implementation of new gas transportation agreements and gas processing agreement (GPA) effective April 1, 2015,” Petronas Gas said.
Meanwhile, its earnings per share for the quarter was 22.74sen compared to 21.12sen a year ago.
Furthermore, its gas processing segment’s revenue for the quarter segment surged by 21.5mil, from the corresponding period a year ago due to higher reservation charge under the new GPA.
“This was partially offset by lower performance based structure income as a result of plants lower extraction performance compared to target,” the company noted.
On the other hand, the gas transportation segment’s revenue jumped 8.7% to RM323.2mil for the quarter, from RM297.1mil a year ago supported by higher transportation capacity.
Its utilities segment’s revenue for the quarter increased marginally by RM1.5mil from a year earlier due to higher revenue by other utilities products in line with higher offtake from customers.
“Moving forward, revenue and results for the utilities segment will continue to be heavily influenced by the petrochemicals customers’ demand,” Petronas Gas pointed out.
It also expects revenue from gas processing and gas transportation segment to remain stable as gas for internal consumption is provided by Petronas.
